OH DEAR BORED ALREADY? - 18 March 2010

Oh dear! Is it just me or are you already fed up with the constant bickering and point scoring going on between our beloved political leaders? When will they realise that what they find interesting in the Westminster hot house most of us frankly my dear could not give a damn.

It has become clear that more than one political party has members sitting in the House of Lords who are not domiciled in the UK. Yes Lord Ashcroft is Deputy Chairman of the Conservative Party and is very generous in his donations to the Party. Lord Paul also not domiciled in the UK , has been generous to the Labour Party and has been made a Privy Councillor and the Lib Dems have accepted money from Non-Doms. The saying "Pot calling the Kettle" springs to mind and frankly there are more important issues.

Most of us are can't understand how MPs can be awarded a pay rise when other civil servants are having their pay frozen or are loosing their jobs. To be fair of course we can't blame the MPs for this as it was awarded by an outside body and the award has embarrassed MPs at a difficult time for them. Many have now said that they are not going to accept or take the pay rise, not because they don't want it, but because the public are outraged by it and they fear not being re-elected this summer.

More relevant I think is not the question of non-doms sitting in the House of Lords, but those Scottish MPs sitting in those of Commons and voting on issues that concern those us us living in England, including of course one Gordon Brown. How can they vote on issues which have no impact on those they represent?

How sad that the so called leaders TV debates are going to be so sanitised that they are not going to be put on the spot by members of the public or even the other party leaders with whom they are debating.

My plea is for our leaders to concentrate on policies and not on personalities and spin. So far we have not heard enough about what they intend to do, where they intend to increase taxes and fund the massive shortfall in the public purse, and too much on what they think of each other. Most of us are convinced that there is little to chose between their personalities so lets please concentrate on policy.
